I am a bit disappointed with our system. I think that we, the voting public, reward the candidate that is able to tear down its opponents the best. I think we wind up with leaders that are always the best LEADER, but the best at suppressing others and ideas. Why do they get away with it? Because we love logging on to our websites and turning on TVs to see the latest bitchslap or scandal that has consumed the nation.
Well this week we got two of them. The first, a governor who has a taste for top quality hookers. Although, a questionable act, it’s a private act. One that should be dealt personally and out of the media’s spotlight. What was there to gain for publicly embarrassing his family who had nothing to do with his actions? Imagine if you were his daughter or wife and had to face the media, their friends, and family? It’s embarrassing enough to have to resign from office in disgrace, but to have his wife standing next to him while doing it. For political face. Disgraceful. But what the public expects.
Then, we have Geraldine Ferraro resigning for remarks she made about Obama. Why does someone has to dig and make such remarks about a person’s abilities based on race? I don’t think she is a racist–otherwise, she would be a Republican. No, she is following the lead from a win-at-any-cost candidate. The public fuels Hillary’s wrath and we enjoy watching the clips on the Daily Show and CNN. We crave the drama created in politics. However, we then complain that our lives aren’t getting any better; our politicians are corrupt and not representing us; taxes are misspent. Well, we brought it on ourselves buddy.
If you want a government that is efficient, well democracy isn’t the one you are looking to get. Democracy is messy and slow. Yet, I think most of the people that enter politics are good people that get consumed by the machine. I feel that this election is a warning to our country. Change does need to happen, it HAS to happen. Otherwise, I fear for our way of government and life surviving the upcoming evolutions in world events. Locke I believe said that government has a contract with the people its governs. If we don’t improve our focus and ethics, I feel the American people have the right to break the contract.
